Why I Switched to DaVinci Resolve

After 8 years on Premiere Pro, I made the switch. Here's why and what surprised me.

The Switch

I used Premiere Pro for 8 years. It was comfortable, I knew every shortcut, and my templates were dialed in. So why switch?

The Breaking Point

Premiere crashed during a client session. Not for the first time — but it was the last time. The auto-save was 20 minutes old. I lost a full color grade.

What I Found in Resolve

  1. Stability — It just doesn't crash. In 6 months of daily use, zero crashes.
  2. Color grading — Resolve's color tools are in a different league. The node-based workflow is more flexible than layers.
  3. Fairlight — A full DAW built into the video editor. For someone who does audio work, this is huge.
  4. Free tier — The free version covers 95% of what I need.

What I Miss

  • Dynamic Link with After Effects
  • Some third-party plugin support
  • The muscle memory (getting better every week)

Verdict

Should you switch? If you do both audio and video work, absolutely. The Fairlight integration alone is worth it.
