About This Project
Chopper (2019), directed by Giorgos Kapsanakis, is an English short film that follows Angie as she refuses to let her grandfather—an ex-biker suffering from dementia—spend his final days in a nursing home. The story unfolds through an intimate and emotional lens, blending realism with subjective, dreamlike moments that reflect memory, identity, and loss.
The film combines grounded storytelling with stylised sequences, where sound and music play a key role in shaping the emotional narrative and pacing. It received multiple international recognitions, including Best Cinematography at the International Film Festival of Wales and a Special Award for Best Original Music Score at the Drama International Short Film Festival.
My Contribution
I composed and music produced the original score for Chopper, creating a bespoke sonic identity that blended realistic sound design elements with more abstract, dreamlike textures. The music was closely integrated with the film’s editing, helping drive transitions between narrative states and enhancing the emotional impact of key scenes.
Working closely with the director, I followed a clear creative direction to achieve a specific tone and atmosphere, ensuring the score supported both the grounded performances and the more interpretive sequences. The result was a cohesive audio landscape that contributed significantly to the storytelling, recognised with a Best Original Music Score award at the Drama International Short Film Festival.
